How to install a furnace filter - Page 2

Installation of a new furnace filter

When attempting to install the new filter, you will probably find that you will have to open the unit or reach around it to get to the filter compartment.

Step 1 -

For this reason, you should always shut off the furnace and turn the power off at the circuit breaker. In most up-flow furnace models, the filter is found in the blower compartment, which can be found in the furnace's bottom door.

For down-flow furnace models, the filter should be located in the upper blower compartment.

Step 2 -

Open up the service panel (whether it be the top or bottom blower compartment) and look for the installed filter.

Step 3 -

Slide out the installed filter and simply replace it with the new one.

Step 4 -

Once replaced, take some time to brush the area clean, and make sure that the door closes tight enough to engage the safety switch of the furnace. Finally, re-establish power to the furnace and give it a test run.
